THE ARK IS A BOAT, AND IT BETTER FLOAT

Here is another bible story for you.  It truly is my escape from the world of current events.  Mind you, bible stories are full of their own strum und drang, but at least I know how the stories are goin to end!

Back in the days, the old days long ago-a
There once was a man who the people called Noah

Old Noah was good, you would like him - you might!
And he listened to God every day and at night

One day when he listened, God told him some stuff,
Bad news for the world, things were going to get rough

There soon would be rain, lots of rain everywhere
So much rain that the rains would start flooding down there

So God said to Noah, you need a big boat
A boat that is big and is strong and will float

We’ll call it an ark, but whatever you do
Be sure to put animals in two by two

Bring all sorts of animals, the big and the small
The creepers and jumpers and those that can crawl

No need to make room for the ones that can swim
Even so, this big ark will be filled to the brim

And so Noah built that big boat called an ark
He worked all the day and he worked in the dark

And when it was finished, he looked on with pride
But God said, “Don’t wait! Get those critters inside!”

Well that was a job, I can tell you it was
Herding sheep with the lions and bees that went buzz

But Noah kept at it, and when the rains fell
All the animals were safe, Noah’s family as well.

For the next forty days, they watched the rain tumble
But Noah was busy - too busy to grumble

He had all those critters to care for and feed
Though everyone helped, it was hard work indeed

This went on so long people started to frown
And it’s frankly amazing that nobody drowned
But one day the rain simply stopped falling down

Old Noah sent birds out in search of dry land
But to find that dry land took much longer than planned
The birds kept returning with nothing in hand

Not a branch or a berry - at least not at first
Then a dove brought a twig and there was an outburst

Of joy, for a tree had poked out of the water
And soon they could leave, father, son, wife, and daughter

Not long after that, the old ark settled down
On top of a mountain, on good solid ground

So Noah was saved - with the tigers and mice!
Because Noah listened to God’s good advice
And if you listen too, well, that would be nice.

It’s All On Kavanaugh

The Senate is set to vote on Brett Kavanaugh as early as today (Thursday, October 4), though they might wait till Friday.  The FBI turned in its report before 8:00 AM today, a whole day earlier than necessary and without interviewing many of the key players in this sham of a game. The biggest sham in the entire debacle, however, is that this is some “sh*t show” as a former high school classmate put it.  That the mean Democrats have somehow made this all up just to derail President Trump’s wonderful nominee.  They’re playing politics, say the Republicans. There are several holes in this theory, and I will try to enumerate them here as dispassionately as I can: If you want to see “playing politics” with a Supreme Court nominee, look no further than Merrick Garland.  Remember him?  He was a moderate but highly rated judge even among Republicans.  They simply chose - out of thin air - to refuse to give him a hearing.  With nearly a year before the ...

"All's Well That Ends Well?" Sermon preached on August 20, 2017

What a week it’s been, huh?  Just last Sunday, I was preaching to you about the Neo-Nazi march in Charlottesville, Virginia that ended so tragically in murder and countless fights. Throughout the week, the tensions mounted with questions of what should be said about it and what constitutes free speech, and are Nazis really such bad guys anyway?   Then, yesterday, in Boston, the white supremacists were to have another rally in Boston.  If the Boston Globe is to be believed, they counted about fifty white supremacists and roughly 40,000 counter-protesters - just to show what this country really thinks of them. The bad guys - and it is fair to say from the pulpit that there is nothing good in Nazi or white supremacist ideology - were sent packing.  So, that takes care of that, right?  All’s well that ends well, right? Um… I think you know the answer to that.   If you don’t, maybe our scriptures can help.  Let's look at Joseph in Genesis. ...

My Rules of Engagement

MY RULES OF ENGAGEMENT: I have been troubled for a long time with the declining lack of civility in public discourse.  This is especially true in comment sections of nearly every forum and is particularly insidious on FaceBook.  I have been a part of this, and I’m repenting of the wrong.   Not that I will no longer comment, but I will no longer engage in the long back-and-forth’s of old.  They are not helpful - in fact, they lead to abuse of the one who might dare to stand up and disagree (regardless of what side they choose).  So, here are my new rules of engagement when it comes to controversial or charged issues.  Pray that I may faithfully adhere to them, and know that they are there because I love and respect you: In the Spirit of Matthew 18:15 , if I have a problem with what you write, I will not attack you in the comment section.  Rather, I will PM you and lay out my arguments as reasonably, civilly and lovingly as I am able.  I ...
